How do preorders work ?

  1. Preorder Setup by Publishers
    • When a publisher sets up a preorder in VaultN, they provide a digital release date which is the time keys will start to be allocated to pre-orders.
    • The activation keys for the preorder are sent to VaultN on or near this release date, usually a week prior.

  2. Handling Inventory
    • Unlike normal orders, preorders don’t initially have inventory since the keys are not yet available at the time of order placement. Digital release date, the fulfilment date, is communicated by the publisher. So is the SKU of the preorder product.
  3. Placing a Preorder
    • Preorders are created using the standard order API, detailed at VaultN API Documentation.
    • To place a preorder:
      • Set mustfulfil to false.

  4. Preorder Bonuses
    • Some publishers grant preorder bonuses as a separate key, therefore these preorder bonuses are delivered as a separate SKU (and separate Product).

      • For every preorder placed, a separate order should be placed for the preorder pack SKU as well.

      • Both the preorder key and the bonus key should be delivered to the customer on the specified release date.
