How Do Preorders Work ?
Preorder Configuration by Publishers
When configuring a preorder in VaultN, publishers are required to specify a digital release date. This date marks the start of key allocation to preorder transactions. Activation keys are typically transmitted to VaultN on or shortly before this release date, often approximately one week in advance.
Inventory Management for Preorders
Preorders differ from standard orders in that they do not have available inventory at the time of order placement. This is because the activation keys are not yet delivered. The digital release date, which also serves as the fulfillment date, is explicitly communicated by the publisher along with the associated preorder product SKU.
Placing a Preorder
Preorders are submitted using the standard VaultN order API, as outlined in the VaultN API Documentation.
To create a preorder, the mustfulfil parameter must be explicitly set to false.
Preorder Bonus Content
Certain publishers may offer preorder bonuses in the form of additional keys. These bonuses are typically distributed under a separate SKU and are treated as distinct products.
For each preorder placed, a corresponding order should also be submitted for the preorder bonus SKU. Both the main preorder key and the bonus key must be delivered to the customer on the designated release date.
